What type of bag to carry?
We would recommend getting a 60 ltr. backpack for the trip.
Carry a small bag(10 to 15 litres) for your trek.

Things to carry:

Wollen wears as winters will be arriving in Meghalaya.
Good trekking shoes with a firm grip as we will be trekking on ancient trails.
Personal water bottle.
Personal Garbage bag.
Swimwear for Shnongpdeng activities.
Head lamps/ Torches with batteries.
Quick-dry towels.
Band-aids and personal medication.

ID Proof – Voters card/ Pan Card/ Passport/ Drivers license/ Aadhar card

Other things that you may bring along :
Sun tan lotion.
Playing cards and small board games, in case you don’t feel sleepy at night
Go pro for underwater shots

We will pick up and drop you from and to the Guwahati airport once you share the arrival time of your flight.

Please avoid buying and carrying plastic on the trip. Also, we would like to inculcate a habit of not littering while you are travelling.

Entry to the states of Meghalaya does not require a permit.

A most definite yes, as long as you are okay travelling in a mixed group of other solo travellers or small group of friends.

  • Winter jacket
  • balaclava/ beanie (something that covers your ears and your head)
  • Sports socks for trek and Swimwear for Shnongpdeng, you can also get swimming goggles or snorkelling masks, and swimming cap
  • Raincoat (just in case, since you are travelling in ‘abode of clouds’)
  • Trekking shoes.
  • Quick-dry towels (plastic bag/ ziplock to carry your wet clothes)
  • Allergy medications and other medicines, since these are very remote places with very little access to most basic things.
  • A non-disposable water bottle to fill water and AVOID BUYING MINERAL WATER
  • ID Proof – Voters card/ Pan Card/ Passport/ Drivers license/ Aadhar card.

Other things that you may bring along :
Tissue rolls
headlamps/ Torches with batteries
Playing cards and small board games, in case you don’t feel sleepy at night
Bottle openers
Go pro for underwater shots

Ideally a 60-litre backpack should be convenient, however, there is no real hiking or trekking with the bags, so a suitcase or trolley is also fine.
Do carry a separate smaller bag(10 to 15 litres) for your trek.

Though vegetarians may not have the luxury of tasting all the local foods as these are mostly meat-based. You have nothing to worry you will get all kinds of basic sabji, dal, rice, roti, papad, salad etc. Your cravings for butter paneer or mushroom Manchurian may not be fully satisfied but you will do just fine. You must ensure that you are trying out all the available seasonal fruits and local wild leaves.

Read this blog to know about the food hacks that vegetarian travellers can try in Meghalaya.

The trek will be a bit more difficult than the average treks in the North East. The trail we will be trekking on is the Ancient Khasi Trail, with stones and some rugged paths on the way. We would like to recommend that you should come for the trip if you are both physically and mentally fit. We will have a professional local guide to help you out throughout the trek. The trek would be challenging but it is totally worth doing with what you will experience on the way.

The ancient trails are more like a pilgrimage than a trip. Everything you see will be breathtaking, putting to shame every commercial viewpoint there is. Everywhere our small group of five went, we were the only ones there; just us and the abundant nature. There was never a moment where the charm of offbeat places refused to embrace us. We were filled with extraordinary prospects and stories, the laughter and the music were precious, the silence even more. I will remember this trip for a long time and will come back for more.

To every traveler out there, I would like to share my recent travel experience. Me along with five of my friends had traveled to northeast part of India. We have covered popular places in meghalaya, Arunachal and Nagaland in 15 days. I am not going to write a lot about what all places we have covered in the trip instead I want to mention about how this whole trip was executed with utmost finesse by Chalohoppo team. It has started with a casual WhatsApp message with these guys but the level of engagement they had displayed is commendable. I would like to call out few names which are worth mentioning. John-The planner, has helped me in curating my trip. He suggested some exotic stays which are tough to find on google maps but one can definitely find some peaceful time after a long day. Ankur- The man in action, he was our driver for the trip but calling him as driver would be so underrated. He is a cool and funny guy. He keeps you active by sharing interesting stories and kicking off some intriguing conversations. I believe this trip wouldn't have been same if it wasn't for this guy. Nishant- The Boss. This guy definitely know what it takes to make a customer happy. The way he works out a problem and return with a solution is a delight to experience. If you are looking to explore northeast as a traveller rather than a tourist, do some fun filled activities and visit beautiful home stays, you should read more about Chalohoppo before you can think of anything else. These guys always got a plan B and ready to get their hands dirty to bring an everlasting experience to their customers. I never thought that I would write such a big review for anyone but trust me these guys deserve it. Chalohoppo- keep rocking as you always do.

The beauty of our trip to NE was in the personalized selection of places to stay, away from the city to give us a feel of Meghalaya and Assam. We were constantly updated on authentic food and local markets. Each place we stayed at , threw us a surprise by way of architecture and culture. This experience was possible only because of the care and personal involvement of the ChaloHoppo group. would recommend to see NE with ChaloHoppo rather than the bigger trip organizers
